The Practice Manager serves as an advisor to practice group leadership, collaborating to achieve performance objectives and manage the day-to-day operations of the team. Coordinating with local and firm-wide administrative departments, the Practice Manager provides administrative leadership and support to the Section.
Management and Leadership:
Works closely with Practice Leadership to drive the Practice's strategic objectives. Serves as contact for clients, facilitating resolution of any matter, billing, or process issues. Manages all operations related to the Practice, working collaboratively and effectively with all administrative departments to ensure the necessary resources to advance goals. Monitors attorney workloads, billable hours, and productivity. Together with the Practice Leader, manages work assignments and deal distribution. Champions best practices and standards for timekeeping and billing.
Analyzes requirements to identify and implement workflow processes in pursuit of operational effectiveness, profit maximization, and exceptional client service. Produces practice analytics focused on attorney workflow and matter statistics. Monitors financial performance and providing analysis to leadership. Together with the Practice Finance Partner, reviews and analyzes prebills for all active matters. Directs the accounts receivable and collections efforts with support of firm accounting staff. Manages the matter intake process. Works closely with Firm Business Intake Partner to address and resolve potential matter conflicts. Ensures compliance with all client requirements, including billing and reporting. Directs the practice's annual budget and ensures the group operates within budget parameters.
Identifies staffing needs and partners with Human Resources Manager to recruit and hire legal support staff and paralegal positions. Provides feedback for the support staff’s and paralegals’ performance and compensation process. Coordinates with Human Resources to hire, train and integrate staff personnel. Supervises workflow across office lines; communicates and coordinates with Office Administrators and Human Resources when personnel issues arise
Partners with the Business Development/Marketing Department to develop and implement strategic initiatives and ensure alignment of business development and marketing resources to the needs of the practice.
At least six (6) years law firm administrative experience preferred. Bachelor’s Degree or any combination of experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Master’s in Business Administration considered a plus.
